Back from a great trip to Berlin and some fantastic playing with local musicians there. Thanks to all those who turned out. We're hoping to put together some shows this October in Barcelona and Madrid, Spain, keep an eye on the site for any announcements. As usual, we've got plenty of gigs lined up for NYC.

WINTER 2003
Where Are We?
I've gotten some emails asking what's going on and why haven't there been any gigs since November. Well, I've been writing the new material to finish our new CD and doing demo recordings of the new material at home. The plan is to go back in the studio in early 2004 and record. We basically took the month of December off with the holidays and also the amount of writing I've been doing. But keep checking back-- I'll also send out an email to those of you on the mailing list announcing the release of the new CD.

7/28 Trio Grande Samples Available
Seven some-odd months later... we've got samples from our latest upcoming recording available on our Sounds page. We're going back in the studio in late August to complete the recording so I'm thinking the CD will be available sometime in September, possibly on an actual record label (everyone cross your fingers). In the meantime we've been focusing on gigs. Come and check out a show and see what we've been doing.

11/23 Trio Grande Recording is Mixed
Thanks for everyone's interest- the recording was mixed and completed last night (11/22). The cd will be out and available shortly. Check back soon. Song samples will be available shortly. We're all really proud of this one and hope you enjoy it as much as we did making it.

11/18 Trio Grande Recording
About a week and a half ago (11/2), we recorded a three song demo of some new material. I managed to get together a fantastic group for the recording: on trumpet and flugelhorn, Brad Mason, on bass, Chrisian Fabian (who played bass on my first record), and on drums Antonio Sanchez.

08/01 Antonio Sanchez Stolen By Pat Metheny Group
Pat Metheny has kidnapped my drummer. I'd like him back. But seriously, to those who haven't heard, Antonio has been hired as Pat Metheny Group's new drummer. Antonio appears on Pat's new record, "Speaking of Now" and of course sounds fantastic. Congratulations to both Antonio and Pat. Antonio will still be playing with Sean Driscoll Group and Trio Grande when he's available. I have a great new drummer, Andy Sanesi for those of you who haven't heard. Check him out here.

JANUARY 2002 SDG on Hiatus While Trio Grande Moves Ahead
I'm currently writing music and preparing to rehearse for my current project "Trio Grande". The instruments are a bit different than SDG, consisting of guitar, drums, bass and trumpet. I'll soon have mp3 samples on this site so you can hear the new direction of the music.

APRIL 2000 SDG Gets Radio Airplay in Latvia
Sean Driscoll Group is now getting airplay in the country of Latvia. We received a letter from a DJ who works for Latvian National Radio requesting permission to play the band's first CD for his listeners. He somehow got a copy of the CD from a friend who is a DJ in Los Angeles.

MARCH 19, 1998 Islands is Released
Sean Driscoll Group's second CD Islands has been released and is available through this website. We're extremely pleased with the quality of this effort and we know you will be too. Hop on over to the SOUNDS section of this web page for a listen to samples of some of the tracks.

AUGUST 20, 1997 Mixing Complete
"Islands" has been mixed and is ready for mastering. The Group is relocating to New York City in September, so the final stages of the album will be completed there. Mastering is set to be done by Dick Charles at Dick Charles Mastering in NY. Dick has been mastering records for over twenty years and does most of his work now with Island Records (coincidence?) and two other labels based in London, England.

JULY 17, 1997Studio Chosen For Mixing
Mixing for Sean Driscoll Group's second CD "Islands" will start the week of June 24. "10 Spot" studios in Boston has been chosen as the mix site. Sean Driscoll and Patrik Andrén will be producing the CD which should be completed by the first week of August. Thanks to all those who have inquired about the CD and thank you for your patience. You won't be disappointed.

MAY 25, 1997 Recording is Finished
Recording for Sean Driscoll Group's second CD "Islands" has been completed. The sessions went extremely well and we're all very happy with how it sounds. The next step is to mix and master the material which will be done in mid-July. We're still looking to have the CD completed and ready for sale by August. Pictures from the recording session will be posted shortly in the PICTURES section of this website.

APRIL 22, 1997 Recording Dates and Location
Recording for Sean Driscoll Group's second CD will begin May 1st at Boston's Newbury Sound and will continue through May 6th (with a couple of days off) for a total of four days of recording. The new CD will have eleven tracks, with most of the songs coming from material the band has played live for around two years, but also including never-performed material. Mixing and mastering will be done over three days in mid-May with the final product available by late June or early July. The CD is tentatively titled "Islands".

FEBRUARY, 1997 Musician Magazine Interview is Out
The March 1997 issue of Musician Magazine (available now) contains an interview with some of the bands that won the "Best Unsigned Band Contest" including Sean Driscoll. The interviewer, Dev Sherlock (Associate Editor), and I talked for over an hour, but he managed to condense our rambling conversation into a pretty readable form. The interview will be available shortly in the Reviews section of this website.

NOVEMBER 26, 1996 New CD Recording Delayed -Thank God
We've had to delay our CD recording for a couple of months, but for a good reason- one month is NOT enough time for Carlos (the new bass player) to learn the new tunes and for us to sound our best together. We decided it would be best for the recording to play together as much as possible and really work on making the band a unit again. Due to all of our hectic schedules, we're going to record in late winter- February at the earliest and March at the latest. This will also give us the opportunity to gig a little before the recording and really tighten things up. As it is, there are plenty of things happening in the meantime- Musician Magazine is releasing the Best Unsigned Band CD to major and indie lables in December and the interview in Musician will be coming out in January, so the timing for the recording now is perfect. We'll keep you up to date here!

OCTOBER 24, 1996 Sean Driscoll Group Finds New Bass Player
After a month of waiting, we've finally landed a new bass player -and just in time- recording for the new CD is beginning in about a month. Carlos Sanoja, from Caracas Venezuela, is taking the chair left vacant a month ago. Carlos has been away for most of October touring in Venezuela with a Latin piano trio including Antonio Sánchez and Leo Blanco.

Carlos is an excellent bass player with three CD credits in Venezuela, (S Cool Jazz Trio, Viela da Costa, Gonzalo Mico) has played with Venezuelan pop stars Frank Quintero and Luz Marina, and appears on one of Wayne Naus' "Heart and Fire" CDs here in Boston.

SEPTEMBER 30, 1996 Sean Driscoll Group Hunts for New Bass Player
Christian Fabian Bausch turned in his pink slip to me sometime last week. It was a friendly and amicable split. Assuring me he still loved the music, he said he just needed a break. Any of you who know Christian knows that he gives 110% to everything he does, unfortunately he's been giving that to too many projects at once. He has his own excellent band "Time Design" who just did a short tour of Japan, is in demand as a session and pick-up gig player in Boston, just finished a month of recording with his own group and plays in many concerts at Berklee College of Music. You can see why he's tired. We've begun the search for a new bass player and will announce soon who it is.

SEPTEMBER 30, 1996 Work On a NEW CD Begins
We've begun work on a new CD scheduled for release in January 1997. Studios have been toured, but a final decision has yet to be made on which one we will record at, mostly because we're trying to arrange to get time at New York's Power Station. At the moment, Antonio is in on a tour in Venezuela with a Latin piano trio so it makes finalizing the schedule a little more difficult. What we do know is this: the new CD will be full length (8-10 tracks), it will include material we have been playing live for the past year as well as at least two new tunes, and the group will include all the players who played on our first CD, but with with a new bass player (see story above).

SEPTEMBER 10, 1996 Sean Driscoll Group Wins "Best Unsigned Band" Competition Sponsored By Musician Magazine
Sean Driscoll Group is one of twelve bands to win Musician Magazine's Best Unsigned Band competition. Over three thousand entrants from all over the country submitted tapes containing two songs to the magazine for judging. The twelve winners were chosen by such well-known artists as Pat Metheny, Jimmy Jam, Steve Winwood, Juliana Hatfield, Stone Gossard, Adrian Belew and Matthew Sweet. Sean Driscoll Group was also one of the top four bands chosen from the twelve winners to receive a PA system provided by JBL. In addition, Sean Driscoll Group will be profiled in an upcoming issue of Musician and the magazine will issue a Best Unsigned Bands in the US CD with the twelve winners' songs to be distributed to major label A&R representatives and radio stations.

The group has been receiving excellent reviews for their self-titled debut CD from magazines in the New England area and New York but this win, so far, is the biggest honor.
